Surajkund International Craft Fair is one of the unique fairs of Haryana which is organized every year at Surajkund, Haryana’s Faridabad District. The fair is organized by Haryana Tourism Department to encourage handicraft. Here artists come from various States of India and across world with traditional handmade items of their respective states to showcase their art and craft. This year the fair is scheduled to be held from Feb 2 to Feb 18. Uttar Pradesh is the Theme State for this year’s craft Mela while Kyrgyzstan is the partner country.
The inauguration of the mela has done by Chief Minister of Haryana Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar along with Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Aadityanath.
The major highlights of the Surajkund Mela is the theme State i.e. Uttar Pradesh. The concept of the Theme was arisen with a view to promote and to get acquainted the people with the art, handicraft, handlooms and culture of one particular State of India. There are set up of various dwars inside the mela precincts like Ayodhya Dwar, Awad Dwar and Bundelkhand Dwar etc.
There are also replicas of Banaras Ghats such as Assi ghats, Manikarnika Ghats etc.
20 foreign countries including Syria, Bangladesh, Maldives, Thailand and almost all the States from India are participating in Mela. Beautiful Dolls from Kyrgyzstan also a source of attraction for the visitors.
A large number of celebrated national and international folk artistes and culture groups showcase their performances at both the Chaupals, the open-air theatres, situated in the Mela premises and enthralling cultural evening programmes are being held at the main Chaupal during each of the Mela evening.
The Food Courts comprises stalls of foods from different states in India which is immensely popular among the tourists. One should not lose a chance to taste Gohana’s Jaleba made from Desi Ghee.
Mobile ATM Van facility is also provided to the visitors especially from the State Bank of India and ICICI Bank.
This craft fair is occupying a special place of pride among the international tourist and there came more than millions of visitors every year in the Mela including thousands of foreign tourists.
One must visit to the the Surajkund Mela as it showcases the prosperity and diversity of the handicrafts, handlooms and cultural fabric of India & is the largest crafts fair in the world.
