26th January, 2016 the 67th Republic Day was celebrated with great pomp and show, the main event being at Rajpath, India Gate, New Delhi.
This Republic Day, the main Foreign Dignitary-cum-Guest was VVIP French President His Excellency Mr. Francois Hollande, who is on 3 day official visit to India.
The day started with the Prime Minister Mr. Narender Modi reaching at “Amar Jawan Jyoti” the War memorial, India Gate and paying his respect and homage by remembering the Soldiers who lay their lives in various wars.
Thereafter the Prime Minister Mr. Narender Modi, Defence Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar and three Defence Service Chiefs along with other distinguished ministers and officials, welcomed the President, Mr. Pranab Mukerjee and the French President His Excellency Mr. Francois Hollande at Rajpath, the main place where the President had to take salute from the Parade.
The Parade started with a strong 124 member contingent of French Squad, first time in the history of Indian Republic Day Parades, saluting the Presidents in their ceremonial way. Weapons of different kinds from Army, Navy and Air-force including the missiles, tanks, launch vehicles, Electronic Warfare Systems were displayed. Contingents of Army, Navy and Air-force, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Protection Force, Railway Protection Force and National Cadet Corps, with their respective bands also presented their ceremonial salutes to the Presidents.
The Dog Squad from Remount Veterinary Corps with their escort marched presenting ceremonial salute. Camel Squad of the Border Security Force was also part of the Parade.
Theme based tableaus from 17 states were shown with rich cultural heritage and on-going social projects. Thereafter Ministries like, Social Welfare, Renewable Energy, Drinking Water, Communication, Panchayati Raj and Election Commission of India also displayed tableaus based on various themes.
With a big round of applause, the crowd and distinguished guests greeted 25 children having conferred with National Bravery Awards. Display of Indian Folk Dances by children of various Delhi Schools was also appreciated by the people present.
Spectators cheered when, daredevil stunts by jawans of Army Signal Corps, were performed, making various formations on motorcycles and Air-force pilots showed their skills with Helicopters, Jaguar and other Aircrafts at the end of the whole show.
In this whole show of might and cultural act, Delhi was made a seven layered security fortress due to the presence of His Excellency Mr. Francois Hollands. Moreover the threat from ISIS also alerted Indian Security Forces to cover Ground to Air Security.
