The Uttar Pradesh transport department is now planning to set counter in post offices for providing to offer all online licence-related services to applicants. Transport department has already sent a proposal regarding setting up of separate counters at Post offices to the State Government. This move has been taken to make the driving license more assessable, facilitate easy processing for applicant and to cease engagement of middleman for getting driving license. The Post office counter would entertain all online applications for issue of driving license and will also provide services for renewal of driving licenses; change of address in driving license etc. According to sources, two counters would be set up at General Post Office in Hazratganj, Lucknow. After the approval of the State Government, this facility will going to be introduced in other districts also. Fees have not yet been determined for providing this facility at post offices. An admirable step of Uttar Pradesh Government which should be extended in other States too.
